This is a direct fit replacement, though you will need different length screws for the 2 front mounts. the new bridge only uses 4 of the 5 mount holes. Is solid brass, and lets you lower the action more than stock.

Looks like intonation and saddle adustment is much easier to set on the Hipshot. Is that what I'm seeing?

yes, much easier, and if you look at the pics, the D & G saddles are moved way up by design, and where it's set there, was nearly perfect for intonation. much better than how the stock one was set/able to adjust to...

the hipshot has individual string height adjustments, string spacing adjustments, saddle placement adjustments.

the oiginal bridge, because of how it sat down into the tailpiece, the only way to adjust the saddles was to loosen the strings and raise the bridge up !!!
