Hey guys, while watching a youtube NAMM clip I came across a new pick up. George Lynch has a line of guitars and pick ups. The new pick up is 13k. There is a Demo clip about 30 min long. Like I said its new and the price is not that bad for what it is, starting at $144.00 with out a cover. This could be a great sub for a MMK. Alnico 8, F spacing, 13k, 4 wire. Comes with or without a cover. http://mrscaryguitars.com/pickups/ And if your a Lynch fan, it comes with a signed and dated card from George himself. I see alot of guitars selling with out pick ups these days and we already know the body quailty and tone are good on Electras, so this could get you playing quicker. |

Nice! Have you tried the duncan alternative 8 - it sounds like it might be similar but it isn't $150. But I can say I haven't tried it, I have been wanting to try it. I didn't know about the Mr. Scary so obviously have not heard that myself either. Just askin' if you heard the Duncan. My bud can get duncans wholesale so they are about the same as what dimarzios cost - so a little less than half that cost (about half if you get it trem spaced with nickel cover). But you don't get the cool long horn engraved on it. |

No I havent heard about that one. I've seen alot of different ones and thought about swaping out the bridge pick ups on my Hondo's and the scarey just had the sound I was looking for. Do you have a URL to a demo for the Duncan? |

Here is a link to duncan, with some sound clips. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/high-output/alternative_8_s/ Also do a youtube search for duncan alternative 8 and you will see several examples. I have not tried one yet. My bud does a lot of repairs and thinks they are fantastic, sort of JBish without the high end a JB has is how he described it. So if that is the case, I would suppose would sound best in guitars that tended to be bright (neck/body wood combination). But you know how pickups are - they can sound completely differently in different guitars. |

I have since bought a new nickel covered duncan alternative 8 - and it is simply insane. LOTs of output - punchy thick mids, and rather in-your-face. It actually overpowers my PAFish neck pickup. Almost sounds like an active pickup. Really "Ballsy". Sorry about all the cliches. But hey, how do you describe these things without them? This would change a bright guitar into a brutal guitar. It probably would not sound good in a dark sounding guitar. It works in the guitar I put it in, but I am normally not such a high output kinda guy. I wanted something different than my usual and I really got it. I like it. It is out of my comfort zone. This will definitely work to brutalize an Electra. Wow. I can even set this pickup back off the strings a little bit. Part of that lynch sound would definitely be that magnet. |
