I was reading an interview with Billy Sherwood who rejoined Yes last year to replace Chris Squire. A surprising fact came out in that article:

Lee Copson
Hi Billy. Will you be using Chris’s bass with the built in effects that he used on Drama?

Billy: That bass was destroyed in some sort of weather incident with YES on the road in America, not too long ago, when the stage blew apart because of the winds and the truss rods and the lighting rig and all that kind of stuff that hangs overhead came down and fell right into Chris’ bass station where all his basses were. He lost that bass, unfortunately. It got completely destroyed. I loved playing Chris’ basses for fun when we were hanging out, you know, but I have my own preferences with what basses I play. I love Spector basses, they play great and have a fantastic tone. Stuart Spector built me a custom one-of-a-kind 8 String which I use for ‘Going For The One’ and a few other songs. He made me that bass in 1987. Been with them ever since. As for the effects… Line 6 pedal boards are what I use to create those flanges and whatnot, I’ve got those sounds well dialed in.

It looks like the Electra bass that Chris used (modified Outlaw bass that could hold 4 MPC modules at once) was destroyed. That bit of news has not been made public as far as I know since that happened. What a shame.

Hey, you think maybe Ben would make one to replace it because it was not only played by one of the most talented and well known bassist of all time but also a part of music history that could only be recreated by the company that made them and could end up in the hall of fame?

Just asking...........some of you guys are pretty tight with those guys and might give em a nudge.

I'd be awesome if we could get a hold of the parts from that bass to try to figure it out. We could recreate it likely by modifying an original and painting it. It sure would be nice to know what was done though. Some of it electronically was likely so original it might be difficult to do. I doubt anyone is around would know in detail what was in it. If we had the pieces we could likely figure it out. Such a shame.

There was a premier guitar magazine feature on chris not too long ago and he did not mention it as I recall - so maybe that was why? I would be confident Ben could fix almost anything to do with wood or a normal guitar. He could replace a neck or a body, or both. But those electronics... Tom might know more about it. I never talked to him about it to know for sure. If he reads this he can comment.
